Travel Notes

1. Weather:

Southern Xinjiang has an arid climate with low rainfall and wide temperature swings. Summer (June-August) temperatures range from 30°C to 40°C during the day and drop at night, so bring sun protection and a light jacket. Spring and autumn temperatures are moderate (15°C-25°C). In winter (November-March), temperatures can drop to -10°C; warm clothing is essential.

2. Food:

Southern Xinjiang cuisine includes dishes like grilled lamb skewers, pilaf, and naan bread. The food is often rich and oily, so try it in moderation. Most food is halal; respect local customs.

3. Packing Tips:

Clothing: Prepare for the season—light clothing for summer and warm clothing for winter. Comfortable walking shoes are a must. Other Items: Bring personal hygiene products and moisturizing skincare. Some hotels may not provide toiletries.

4. Payment:

Mobile payments (Alipay, WeChat Pay) and credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, UnionPay) are common in major cities. Carry some cash for remote areas.

5. Communication:

Wi-Fi is widely available in cities, but may be weak in remote areas. Consider buying a Mainland China SIM card or activating international roaming for reliable communication.
