Travel Notes

1.Weather:

Gansu and Qinghai have variable climates with significant temperature differences between day and night. Spring and autumn temperatures range from 10°C to 20°C. Summer days are warmer, around 25°C to 30°C, with cooler nights. Winter temperatures can drop below -10°C, especially at night. Pack accordingly with layers and a warm jacket.

2. Food:

Local cuisine is mostly halal, featuring beef and lamb as staples. Popular dishes include hand-pulled lamb, beef noodles, and barley cakes. Qinghai’s milk tea and butter tea are distinctive Tibetan-style beverages. Due to the dry climate, it’s advisable to stay hydrated.

3.Packing Tips:

Clothing: Bring appropriate clothing for the season—light clothes for summer, warm layers for autumn, and heavy winter gear for cold months. Comfortable walking shoes are essential.

Other Items: Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and personal care products are recommended.

4. Payment:

Mobile payments (Alipay, WeChat Pay) and credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, UnionPay) are widely accepted in cities. In remote areas, it’s wise to carry some cash.

5. Communication:

Wi-Fi is generally available in cities, but may be weak in remote or high-altitude areas. Consider buying a Mainland China SIM card or activating international roaming for reliable connectivity.
