"Mainland Exchange Program for Hong Kong Secondary School Students" (2023/24) R3: Ethnic Culture and Geomorphology Exploration Tour in Nanning and Detian, Guangxi (Four Days)

From April 24 to 27, 2024, students from Shau Kei Wan East Government Secondary School embarked on an educational exploration tour to Guangxi. The tour aimed to provide students with a deeper understanding of the geological features and natural beauty of Nanning and Detian, as well as to explore the cultural traditions of the local ethnic minorities.


         

Day 1: High-Speed Rail Journey and Initial Exploration of Nanning

The students took a high-speed train to Nanning, where they began their exploration at South Lake Park, an important leisure spot in Nanning. Here, they appreciated the scenic views and learned about the city's greening efforts and environmental protection practices.

Day 2: Deep Integration of Culture and Nature

The day began with a visit to the Guangxi Ethnic Museum, where students gained a deeper understanding of Guangxi's diverse cultures and history through rich exhibits and professional explanations. Following this, they visited the Guangxi Planning Museum to explore local development strategies. In the afternoon, the group traveled to Yilingyan Scenic Area, known for its unique karst landforms and rich ecosystem. Guided by a naturalist, the students explored caves and geological formations, experiencing the wonders of geological science.

Day 3: From Mingshi Scenic Area to Detian Waterfall

The day started with a trip to Mingshi Scenic Area, where students took bamboo rafts on the Mingshi River, enjoying the water activities while observing the natural landscape along the riverbanks. They then visited the Zhuang Ethnic Minority Cultural Park, where they learned about traditional architecture and lifestyle. The highlight of the day was a visit to Detian Waterfall, the largest transnational waterfall in Asia, where students closely observed the majestic scenery and felt the awe-inspiring power of nature.

Day 4: Cultural Exchange and Tour Conclusion

On the final day, the students participated in cultural exchange activities in Nanning. They tasted various local foods, learning how local ingredients and cooking techniques reflect the rich culinary culture of Guangxi.

This exploration tour in Nanning and Detian provided students with an immersive experience in the unique geological features and rich ethnic cultures of Guangxi. Through hands-on exploration, interactions with locals, and participation in cultural activities, students gained a better understanding of cultural diversity and sustainable development, laying a strong foundation for their future academic exploration and personal growth.
