In the first week of July 2024, students from St. Edward's Catholic Primary School embarked on a cultural exploration tour to Singapore, a country renowned for its cultural diversity. Over the course of four days, students not only experienced Singapore's natural beauty and modern technological innovations but also gained deep insights into the local rich culture and arts.
Upon arriving in Singapore, their first stop was the iconic Gardens by the Bay. There, they visited the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, two large conservatories powered by modern technology, showcasing ecosystems ranging from arid climates to cool, misty environments. After a traditional lunch, the students had the opportunity to taste Peranakan cuisine, a unique fusion of Chinese and Malaysian culinary traditions. In the evening, they were mesmerized by the spectacular light and music show at the Gardens by the Bay, an impressive display of light and water.
On the second day, the students explored Singapore’s three main cultural districts: Chinatown, Little India, and Kampong Glam, which highlighted the distinct cultural characteristics of the Chinese, Indian, and Malay communities in Singapore. At the Marina Barrage Sustainable Gallery, students learned about Singapore’s water management and environmental policies. In the afternoon, they visited the Singapore Science Centre, where interactive exhibits and a 3D science movie helped deepen their understanding of science and technology.
On the third day, the students had a meaningful cultural and academic exchange at a local primary school in Singapore, which broadened their global outlook and fostered new friendships. Following this, they visited the ArtScience Museum to explore the harmonious integration of art and technology. In the evening, they had a memorable experience at Singapore’s unique Night Safari, where they observed the behaviors of various nocturnal animals up close.
On the final day of the trip, students visited the Merlion Park and Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, two landmark sites that not only symbolize Singapore’s national identity but also showcase its artistic and cultural prowess. At Jewel Changi Airport, they learned how Singapore seamlessly blends shopping and leisure into a distinctive lifestyle.
This Singapore educational tour offered the students a profound understanding of Singapore’s diverse culture and advanced technology. It also sparked their interest in international cultural exchanges, broadening their global perspective and laying a solid foundation for their future academic and career endeavors.
